Taillon Leaves Second Start for Blue Jays with Forearm Discomfort

In yesterday’s 2-1 win over the Boston Red Sox, Jameson Taillon left his second start for the Blue Jays and first home start with forearm discomfort. It was a promising start for the right-hander, who tossed four scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and striking out three and walking three.

Toronto Manager John Schneider told reporters after the game that Taillon will undergo an MRI to see the extent of the injury.

In Taillon’s first start for the Jays after a trade with the Chicago Cubs, he pitched four innings and gave up three runs on six hits in a 5-4 extra-inning win over the Houston Astros.

Tough Season for Taillon 

This has been a trying season for Taillon, and the latest injury adds to that. He is 2-6, sports a less-than-stellar ERA of 5.68, and has allowed the fourth-most home runs in the Majors. He also missed more than a month with a hamstring injury before his last two starts for the Cubs.

He was designated for assignment before the trade after his last start for the Cubs, where he was shelled for seven runs in four innings of work. His ERA this season is the highest in his career, and in three of the previous four seasons, he won at least 11 games and did not have an ERA over 4.00.

Add to the fact that Taillon joined a Blue Jays team that has the third-fewest wins in the AL from a Cubs’ team that is likely playoff-bound and leads the NL Wild Card.

Taillon is in the final year of a four-year $68 million contract. The Blue Jays are his fourth team in his 10-year career, where he has an ERA of 3.99 and a won-loss record of 84-66.
