The AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) has penalized slots developer Booming Games over its Autoplay tool.

There is a strict prohibition on the use of the Autoplay tool in regulated online slots in Ontario. To protect players, there is a limit on how quickly they can play through slot spins.

Booming Games did not keep “effective controls” in their games, AGCO CEO Dr. Karin Schnarr said.

“When those safeguards are not respected, the AGCO will take regulatory action,” she added.

Booming Games Autoplay Fine: The Lowdown

Booming Games launched in Ontario in 2024, three years after the province’s gambling regulator outlawed the autoplay tool.

Keen to get its house in order before the regulatory launch, Ontario banned autoplay and imposed a minimum slot spin speed of 2.5 seconds.

Both measures were intended to restrict the amount of time players spend on slots. iGaming Ontario launched as a subsidiary of the AGCO to oversee online gambling activity.

AGCO Fines Increasing for Ontario Gambling Operators

The fine on Booming Games, whose Ontario online slots include ‘Lucky Charms Trio 10,000’ and ‘Regal Coins’, follows several imposed in recent months. Plus, the sizes of the fines are steadily increasing.

Betty Online Casino was fined $120,000 earlier this month for failing to protect underage gamblers.

The AGCO cited lapses in age verification and eligibility controls while handing out the fine.

Similar fines were handed down to Great Canadian Entertainment in July for failing to monitor “high-risk” customers at Pickering Casino Resort. The operator was also fined for using “unauthorized gaming software” at some of its casinos.

The largest fine issued so far this year came in January when FanDuel was charged $350,000. The charge related to suspicious betting activity on its sportsbook regarding several table tennis matches.

iGaming in Ontario Continues to Smash Records

Ontario continues to perform well for a relatively new regulated market.

Sports betting in Ontario topped $1 billion in revenue for June, while total monthly casino wagers saw a 17% increase from the prior month.

In addition, total wagers across regulated Ontario gambling sites in 2025 totalled $98.3 billion. That marked an increase of over 25% year over year.

A more liberal competitive market, plus some excellent local brands such as ToonieBet, has ensured Ontario players keep coming back. Couple that with a tight regulatory control on responsible gambling, and you have the makings of a successful gambling environment.
