Alphonso Davies Staying and Ready to Fight for Place at Bayern Munich

Rumours earlier in the summer suggested that Alphonso Davies’ days at Bayern Munich were numbered. However, the Canadian international is expected to stay and fight for his place at the Allianz Arena.

Injuries have hampered Davies’ progress in recent times, but the full-back is on the mend and remains a big part of Vincent Kompany’s plans. He could still play a leading role for the German champion.

Davies Staying in Bavaria

Davies was linked with a move away a couple of weeks ago, with Saudi Arabia mentioned as a possible location. However, Bayern director Max Eberl has dismissed the transfer rumours.

“I can rule out a move for Alphonso Davies,” said Eberl. When speaking about Bayern’s flexibility on the left wing, he added, “Davies, too, can play that role.”

It has been a tough year for the Canadian international, but there is certainly light at the end of the tunnel.

He played a tiny part for Canada in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and his club future was in doubt, but Davies has been given a much-needed vote of confidence in Munich.

Canadian Ready to Compete with Brown

Bayern bolstered its left-back ranks with the summer signing of Nathaniel Brown. The Germany international moved to Bavaria in a five-year deal from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 23-year-old is expected to make a big impact in Bavaria, but Davies has the experience, and there is no doubting the Canadian’s soccer ability. The fight for the left-back spot this season will be fascinating.

Bayern is the overwhelming favourite to retain the Bundesliga title this season. The German giant is also expected to go far in the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern’s 2026-27 season officially kicks off with a German Super Cup clash with rival Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, August 22nd. The Reds then begin their Bundesliga title defence with a home match against Stuttgart a week later.
