When will Mike Evans return to the field for the Buccaneers?

After hauling in a score against Baltimore, Mike Evans became the fifth wide receiver in NFL history to tally 100 touchdown catches in his first 11 seasons. But after missing the last two games, Evans is tied with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for the 55th-most receiving yards (335) in 2024.

More importantly, the Bucs have dropped two straight matchups, including one against the division-rival Falcons on Sunday.

Reports indicate that Evans could return after Tampa Bay’s Week 11 bye. That’s the good news. However, the schedule isn’t any easier before then, with the Buccaneers facing the Chiefs on Monday night before taking on the reigning NFC champion 49ers.

Neither offense is as dominant as last season, but Kansas City’s and San Francisco’s pass defenses are still difficult to upend. Couple that with no Evans nor Chris Godwin (ankle), and the market isn’t optimistic about the Bucs’ chances.

They’re currently 8.5-point road underdogs on MNF odds and 5.5-point home underdogs on NFL Week 10 odds.

Here’s how the remainder of their schedule shakes out after the bye.

  • Sunday, Nov. 24 (Week 12): at Giants
  • Sunday, Dec. 1 (Week 13): at Panthers
  • Sunday, Dec. 8 (Week 14): vs. Raiders
  • Sunday, Dec. 15 (Week 15): at Chargers
  • Sunday, Dec. 22 (Week 16): at Cowboys
  • Sunday, Dec. 29 (Week 17): vs. Panthers
  • TBD (Week 18): vs. Saints

How long will Mike Evans be sidelined?

A hamstring injury creates an uncertain timeline, normally around three weeks. In Evans’ case, attempting to play through the pain didn’t help his cause. At 4-4 and trailing Atlanta in the NFC South standings, Tampa Bay could be in a danger zone if the offense sputters against its upcoming opponents.

Although Baker Mayfield has supplied a league-high 21 touchdown passes, he is tied with Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love for the most interceptions.

That isn’t bad company to be involved with, but it indicates that Mayfield’s turnover-worthy play rate (4.1%) may continue to rise without a healthy supply of weapons.

Meanwhile, Bucs tight end Cade Otton was the beneficiary of Evans’ and Godwin’s absences, reeling in nine receptions for 81 yards and two scores in Week 9. He’s certainly an option to consider when sifting through NFL prop bets.
