Any Leg Up In A Wide-Open Field?
The Big West posted its bracket here. Big West Tournament odds show no clear favorite.
The entire conference had a rough go this season due to rashes of COVID-19 outbreaks. Most teams played 14 conference games, but UC Davis (12-10, 5-6) played just 11. With a smaller sample size and plenty of teams with similar records, this conference tournament is wide open according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
UC Irvine (+280) is the favorite and the board gets crowded after that. UC Santa Barbara (+410), Long Beach State (+480), and Hawaii (+500) are all shorter than 5-1; Cal State Fullerton (+700) and Cal Riverside (+700) make six teams shorter than 10-1. The favorite Anteaters are the highest-ranked team per KenPom at 120th, 35 spots ahead of conference-leading Long Beach State (18-11, 12-3). They’re led by a stout defense and controlled pace of play. UC Irvine is ninth nationally in scoring defense and 10th in defensive rating.
LBSU has led the way in standings, winning three of their last four Big West games. However, FD isn’t impressed by their lagging offensive and defense ratings (207th and 170th, respectively), pinning them third. Leading the Gouchos is junior guard Joel Murray, whose 16.2 points per game is second in the Big West. Murray’s scored 20 or more in three of his last four outings.
