Northern Colorado And Montana Square Off For Big Sky Title
Northern Colorado and Montana were the clear class of the Big Sky in the regular season. Each finished 15-3 in the conference, four games ahead of the No. 3 team (Portland State). Their overall records were nearly identical at 25-8 (N. Colorado) and 24-9 (Montana).
During the regular season, the teams met twice. Northern Colorado trounced Montana at home, 81-57. However, the Grizzlies exacted revenge on their home floor, 86-78.
Efficient scoring and elite defensive rebounding have carried the Bears to the conference's top numbers by the analytics models. Per Torvik's numbers, they rank among the top 10 in the nation in eFG%, 2-point%, and defensive rebounding. They're second nationally in the latter number.
Montana has similar (to a lesser degree, though) strengths, and both teams boast above-average accuracy from beyond the arc, ranking in the top 60. A cold shooting night from either team would likely be the difference here.
