Tournament Notes

Link to the official Big 12 basketball tournament bracket. All games take place in Kansas City, Mo., which may help the nearby Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats draw some extra fans.

Speaking of Kansas, along with Baylor, they rate as the strongest team according to the tournament odds. FanDuel Sportsbook prices Baylor ever so slightly ahead of Kansas in opening odds, while DraftKings Sportsbook views them as equals. The teams finished with identical conference records and split their season series with each team winning at home. Kansas drew the higher seed for the tournament but doesn’t get any appreciable edge other than perhaps not having to face Oklahoma in the quarterfinal.

The clear second tier of contenders includes Texas Tech and Texas. Both boast top-15 rankings in KenPom’s numbers, meaning they are among the teams with real national title hopes. No other conference has four teams ranked so highly.

After that, there’s a rather distinct separation between the rest of the teams’ chances according to FanDuel and DraftKings. The latter posted significantly longer prices for most of the down-ballot teams, so be sure to line shop if you are planning to place a bet. KenPom doesn’t have any of the teams worse than 71st (West Virginia), so everyone would seem to have a shot here.
