UFC 287 Main Event
If you’re going to use the BetMGM promo and bet the UFC 287 Main Event between Adesanya and Pereira, you’ll want to be well-prepared.
The two have a fascinating history. While the UFC bills this event as No. 2, it’s actually their fourth meeting in combat sports. Pereira emerged victorious, once by decision and once by knockout. In that second bout, Pereira devastated Adesanya with a left hook to the chin.
More than five years later, the two met at UFC 281 in November 2021. Things went well for Adesanya, at least initially. He entered the fifth round ahead 39-37 on all three judges’ scorecards. Only needing to survive the round in reasonable fashion, he instead got clobbered by a left hook again. This time, he stayed upright, However, Pereira poured on the punishment and forced the referee to step in. That awarded him a TKO victory once again.

Can Adesanya Finally Prevail?
Despite all of the poor results, the market still respects Adesanya here, installing him as a short favorite.
He has outperformed Pereira for large portions of their fights only to falter in the dying minutes. He even had Pereira rocked and on the verge of a potential finish only for the first-round bell to sound in their last meeting.
In watching the first UFC meeting between the two, it becomes clear a couple of key factors could decide this fight. Adesanya showcased a clear grappling edge in dominating the third round. He took Pereira to the mat with a nifty spinning body lock and then unloaded big shots. If he can tap into that, it will go a long way toward securing his first win in the rivalry.
On the other end, Pereira did his best work when he backed Adesanya up against the cage. Facing a more stationary target, he landed power shots that had Adesanya hurt and eventually finished.
Overall, Adesanya would seem to have the edge in several departments. He had the better grappling, higher striking volume and better cardio. However, Pereira has the stronger stopping power. Adesanya has proven adept at avoiding a lot of damage in his career, and he must stay on point there to regain his belt.
