BetMGM will be closing the sportsbook at Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds, due to poor performance. Instead, the popular betting operator will launch a new retail location at The Banks in Cincinnati. The new sportsbook locale will host a Nation Kitchen & Bar restaurant which will be accessible to patrons of all ages.

Baseball and football fans that frequent downtown Cincinnati won’t have to worry about going to far though to find the new Ohio sports betting location.

New BetMGM Retail Location In Cincinnati

The venue at The Banks continues the partnership between BetMGM and the Cincinnati Reds, despite moving from the stadium. This location will have several betting windows, self-service kiosks and be surrounded by HDTV screens.

“We are thrilled to expand BetMGM’s offering in Ohio,” said Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer, BetMGM. “The Reds and Nation Kitchen & Bar are great partners and together we’re building a premier entertainment venue that we can’t wait to see filled with fans.”

The new location is still close to the actual stadium; located just 0.3 miles from where the current sportsbook is. Fans could walk seven minutes from the current sportsbook near the left field foul poll to to the new sportsbook located a block or so beyond the home plate entrance. The Banks is also just a six minute walk from Paycor Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

The proximity to the stadium will work to keep the betting action in the area. Alongside the best sports betting sites, locals at Cincinnati Reds games can wager at the BetMGM retail location without veering too far from the actual stadium.

“Bringing BetMGM and Nation Kitchen & Bar together adds another exciting destination to our vibrant downtown,” said Doug Healy, Cincinnati Reds Chief Finance Officer. “This Nation Kitchen & Bar brings best-in-class food service from one of Cincinnati’s best eateries and BetMGM brings best in sports gaming experience.”

The current sportsbook at Great American Ball Park will run until the fall. Following this, fans will be able to place action at the newly formed retail operation. BetMGM is banking on this new location being far more engaging to fans than the previous operation.

Why BetMGM Made The Move

The sportsbook at Great American Ball Park had only been live for a few months. Despite this, reports from WCPO revealed that the venue had been underperforming. This is what prompted BetMGM and the Cincinnati Reds to want to relocate the sportsbook. The hope is that a new location could raise profitability.

Per the report, the BetMGM at Great American Ball Park was the only retail sportsbook in Ohio that wasn’t profitable. Taking a closer look at the Ohio sports betting revenue reports reveals that the location took a net loss of more than $8,000 since the January 1, 2023 launch.

With such poor performance, it is understandable why both the team and BetMGM will work to move locations. Hopefully, this will lead to stronger activity at the new venue.

It’s possible the location was also a challenge. Despite it being in Great American Ballpark, the entrance is not on street-level, requiring those that do not know it’s there to see signs for it and navigate a long climb up stairs to find it. The new location at The Banks will be much closer to the very popular pre-game area too for Bengals home games.
