BetMGM, Caesars Expand To Washington DC With Mobile Sportsbook Launch
BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook are now live in Washington DC. Sports betting expansion is finally here in the nation’s capitol. BetMGM is launching its mobile sportsbook on Monday at noon, and Caesars Sportsbook will also launch its mobile app across Washington. This will be the first time that multiple D.C. mobile sports betting apps will be available, with FanDuel already accessible throughout the region.
Before the Monday launch, BetMGM was only accessible in D.C. inside or close to Nationals Park. Caesars Sportsbook is already home to a retail sportsbook at Capital One Arena.
BetMGM And Caesars Launch In Washington DC After Budget Approval
Lawmakers voted and approved the FY 2025 budget, which included an expansion in the betting market in Washington. Previously, only one districtwide mobile sportsbook was allowed, with GambetDC holding that license since its launch in 2020. Following years of underperformance, lawmakers voted to remove GambetDC in 2024, replacing it with FanDuel.
FanDuel launched on April 15 and saw an immediate impact, with the district seeing a huge betting boom. The budget approval vote came in June after the success of FanDuel’s launch, showing a glimpse of what sports betting could look like. BetMGM and Caesars are the first operators to launch in Washington D.C. since expansion.
“BetMGM will officially launch across the District of Columbia on July 15 at noon. Previously only accessible at Nationals Park, sports fans District-wide will have access to the BetMGM mobile app’s state-of-the-art sports wagering experiences plus related rewards tied to Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Resorts’ properties nationwide including MGM National Harbor. BetMGM will celebrate on July 15 at its destination sportsbook at Nationals Park in true Washington, D.C. form, with performances from a local go-go band, executive interview availability and more.”

More DC Sportsbooks Incoming
Monday’s launches will not be the end of the expansion. The amendment allows multiple sportsbooks to enter the market to create a more competitive industry in D.C. Lawmakers aim to increase sports betting revenue to increase the district’s overall budget.
D.C. will become an attractive market for sportsbooks to try and gain footing. The district’s proximity to Virginia and Maryland is also a benefit to sportsbooks. Many local D.C. residents travel to either Virginia or Maryland to wager at sportsbooks that aren’t located in Washington. Now, operators have the chance to offer odds to those customers in D.C. without them having to travel.
It is likely more sportsbooks will announce their D.C. launch in the coming months.
