Monday Night Football Doubleheader Betting Preview
Tennesse vs. Miami Preview
The Titans have been a trendy bet for three straight weeks and are somehow 0-3 both straight up and ATS. They probably should have covered against Chicago and the Jets, but Will Levis is not good. Levis is 32nd in Dropback EPA amongst QBs to drop back over 20 times this season. The good news for Titans fans is Skylar Thompson is somehow worse at 34th.
In theory, a home game should be better for Skylar than a road one at a good team, but Tennessee’s defense is still good. 11th by EPA and 7th by Success Rate, the Titans’ defense is a stiff unit that won’t allow the Dolphins to do too much damage. If the Dolphins can’t create open field space for their receivers, as they couldn’t in Week 3, they’re done for. The Seattle defense should give the Titans a good game plan to work off of.
Seattle vs. Detroit Preview
In the other game, the Seahawks have clearly benefitted from firing Pete Carroll. After a shaky Week 1, Geno Smith is up to 13th in the league in Dropback EPA. The Seahawks dominated last week against a Dolphins team that still has considerable weapons, even with a backup QB. On the other side, Jared Goff is possibly turning back into a pumpkin, currently sitting 25th by EPA and 20th by Success Rate. Some of this could be early season noise, but the Lions’ uber-efficient offense of past years is not as successful. It looks more difficult, which is born out of Goff’s bad numbers.
With Mike MacDonald bringing so much defensive soundness with him from Baltimore, it’s clear the Seahawks are not meaningfully worse than the Lions as currently constituted. Maybe the Lions flip a switch, and they’re back to being elite, but they’ve yet to show they are that team. Even when they’ve scored, it feels more laborious. Against a better defensive mind than they’ve yet faced, the Lions will struggle.
