NLDS preview

Although the Dodgers secured the top spot in the National League, bettors are looking to fade them in the postseason. The Dodgers’ Achilles’ heel has been the starting rotation since Tyler Glasnow suffered a season-ending elbow injury. Jack Flaherty got the nod in yesterday’s opener, and he’ll be followed by a combination of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and Landon Knack. Flaherty has been excellent this season, boasting a 3.17 ERA to go along with 194 strikeouts. However, with a lackluster rotation behind Flaherty, I’m skeptical of this team making a deep postseason run.

Since August 1st, San Diego has been one of the hottest teams in baseball with a 34-18 record. In that same time frame, they rank fourth in wRC+ and first in strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers. I’ll take a stab on the Padres on the moneyline to knock off the Dodgers in the Game 2 today.

In the other series, the Phillies look to get back on track and shake off some second half rust. Philadelphia dominated in the first half of the season but cooled off after the All-Star break. Their rotation is far and away their biggest strength, with Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Christopher Sanchez leading the way. If their starters slip on the banana peel, they have a deep bullpen that boasts a 3.94 ERA (14th in MLB) to come in and shut the door. The bugaboo for the Phillies though is that sometimes their bats go cold. This game is a stay away for me until I see what Philadelphia team decides to show up this postseason.
