Monday Night Football Doubleheader Betting Preview
Jacksonville vs. Buffalo Preview
The Bills are riding high off a big win last Thursday. With the rest advantage, the Bills are fairly substantial favorites. The big advantage for Buffalo this week is at QB. Through two weeks, Trevor Lawrence is only 22nd in the league in Success Rate, while Josh Allen is 1st. The Jaguars are going to need better from Lawrence to be competitive.
The Jags’ defense could make this game competitive, sitting at 10th in the league in Success Rate. That said, the Bills defense was robust in Week 1 against the Cardinals, ranking 7th in Success Rate. The Jags will need to really limit Allen. They were mostly able to limit Deshaun Watson in the running game last week – they’ll need to do that again.
Washington vs. Cincinnati Preview
In the other game, the Commanders became the first team in years to win a game while kicking 7 FGs last week, while Cincinnati played much better in losing to Kansas City. Joe Burrow will be looking to avoid a 0-3 start, and the Bengals will be looking to keep their playoff hopes alive. That said, this isn’t as easy a cover as it might seem at first glance.
Jayden Daniels has been underratedly effective so far this season. The Commanders ran cold in the red zone last week, but Daniels is 5th by EPA and 7th by Success Rate right now. Some of that is getting to play the Giants, sure. But that’s not all about the quality of competition. Burrow, on the other hand, was abjectly horrible in Week 1. Even last week he was only good – 15th by EPA and 9th by Success Rate.
The good news for Bengals fans is the Commanders defense sucks. 32rd by EPA and 29th by Success Rate, Burrow should be able to pick them apart. Whether Daniels can make plays on the 23rd EPA defense will determine whether the Bengals can cover.
The Washington offense’s results should bounce back from last week, however. They kicked 6 Field Goals of 35 yards or less, meaning 6 of their 7 FGs were red zone possessions. Goal line offensive success is mostly fluky week over week, and the much more predictive fact is that they got there 6 times. If the results normalize in Week 3, the Bengals could be in real trouble.
