Best NHL Player Props & Parlay Picks Today Jan. 21
Happy Wednesday! With four days before the NFL Conference Championships and the college football season coming to an end, the NBA and NHL now own the middle of the week until baseball season starts.
Tonight, six games decorate the slate, kicking off with an Original Six matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings. The game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Anaheim Ducks clearly headlines the late-night slate. However, many of us hockey fans will tune in to see if Alex Ovechkin can bang in his 918th career goal as the Washington Capitals face the Vancouver Canucks, the worst team in hockey by a whopping 10 points.
Ovechkin reached a new milestone last game, becoming the first player in NHL history to record 7,000 career shots on goal. He has long passed Ray Bourque's previous record of 6,209 shots on frame.
Without further ado, here are our top NHL player props, anytime goal scorer picks, and a juicy parlay for this game.
NHL Anytime Goal Scorer Picks
Alex Ovechkin Anytime Goal Scorer (+165)
๐ Odds via FanDuel ๐ฅ
A lot of goals are expected in this game, with the Capitals possessing a lot of offensive firepower going up against the worst team in hockey. While Ovi has been on a four-game goalless run, he's had significantly more ice time against some of the worst teams in the league. He's enjoyed a relatively productive January, and we think tonight's the night he bangs in number 918.
Nathan MacKinnon Anytime Goal Scorer (-125)
๐ Odds via DraftKingsย ๐ฅ
The Nathan MacKinnon - Colorado Avalanche puck line remains the best two-leg parlay in all of sports. Tonight, you can get it at +176 on DraftKings, though be sure to shop around for all the best deals.
We will continue to bet it all season long, even if the Avalanche have lost three of their last seven games in regulation after having just two regulation losses for the entire season on January 4.
MacKinnon's pace is absolutely ridiculous. As of today, he's looking at a 66-goal, 82-assist season, though we really want him to chase the elusive 70-70 club. We think he scores at least once, perhaps twice (+450) tonight.
Brock Nelson Anytime Goal Scorer (+170)
๐ Odds via FanDuel ๐ฅ
Nelson has enjoyed a red-hot January since officially making the Team USA Olympic hockey roster. In the eight games he's played in January, Nelson has contributed eight goals and three assists to the cause. Averaging a goal a game this month and facing the Ducks, it'd be ridiculous not to take advantage of a +170 price.
NHL Player Props
Alex DeBrincat 4+ Shots on Goal (+110)
๐ Odds via FanDuel ๐ฅ
This continues to be our favorite prop to bet on and for good reason. DeBrincat has put up at least three shots on goal in each of his last five games, and Toronto allows the most shots on goal by a large margin. We recommend putting a sprinkle on DeBrincat to put up 6+ shots on goal at +500 tonight.
Matthew Schaefer 1+ Assists (+136)
๐ Odds via Caesars Sportsbook ๐ฅ
Schaefer has been feeling himself over the last week, contributing five points over the last four games. He's added a pair of assists in his last two starts and has a great chance to keep the streak going tonight against the Seattle Kraken. He's dominated Pacific Division teams this season, recording 10 points in 10 games thus far in his young career.
Brock Nelson 4+ Shots on Goal (+245)
๐ Odds via FanDuel ๐ฅ
For the run that Nelson is on, his props are dangerously underpriced and we think his 4+ shots on goal prop represents tremendous value. He's put up at least four shots on goal in six of his eight games in January, including in each of his last three. At +245, this is a no-brainer.
