Christian McCaffrey Player Prop: Over 52.5 Rushing Yards (-118)
The 49ers got a nice performance out of backup Brock Purdy in an emergency situation when Jimmy Garoppolo went down. He threw for 210 yards, albeit needing 40 dropbacks to get there.
I don’t expect much success from this 49ers passing game. Not only will they face a Buccaneers defense that has actually scouted for Purdy, but one that’s ranked in the back half of the league’s top 10 in advanced metrics.
And with Elijah Mitchell on ice for good this time, the team turned to a heavy dose of Christian McCaffrey against the Dolphins. They’ve endeavored to protect McCaffrey by not overloading him with rushing attempts, but that changed last week. He ran the ball 17 times.
And I don’t think, with a slim one-game division lead and a close contest on tap, the team will opt for a heavy dose of undrafted rookie Jordan Mason.
If McCaffrey gets a similar workload here, this line of 52.5 rushing yards is too low. The Bucs defense, one of the best against the run in recent years, looks to have taken a step back. They rank 21st in EPA/rush allowed. McCaffrey not been a high-volume rusher for the Niners. But, that should change in this spot as the team looks to take pressure off a rookie QB.
