February is the hardest month on the calendar in men’s college basketball. The season is draining, the games come quickly and the opponents are usually really good. All of that means no easy nights for the best teams, who know they’ll get everybody’s best shot.

For the team who need wins, things are even more precarious. One loss could be the difference between competing for a championship and watching the NCAA tournament on television. And that means teams have to fight through the grind and give their best effort even when they’re less than their best mentally.

Villanova’s in that exact situation right now. The Wildcats have to avoid bad losses, and they’re facing an opponent that’s handed out a few of them. This is the exact no-win situation that coaches hate any time of year, but especially in February.

As a bettor, it’s important to know where these spots are and pick accordingly. Here are the best college basketball picks and player props for February 10.

Best NCAAB Parlay Picks

Marquette vs. Villanova (U145.5, -110, FanDuel)

Villanova has played very well lately and has covered five in a row. But this game is screaming trap play, as Marquette is also playing well and has absolutely nothing to lose. With the Wildcats giving double digits, the total makes for a better play.

The last time these teams met, Villanova had to shoot 55% from the floor to escape with a three-point win. The Wildcats aren’t likely to do that this time, as Marquette is playing much better defense now. Nor are the Golden Eagles likely to shoot 11 3-pointers again.

Villanova plays a slow tempo at home, and Marquette’s defense is looking like it cares. That should turn this game into a grinder.

Wisconsin vs. Illinois (O153.5, -110, BetMGM)

There are 365 teams in Division I college basketball. Illinois ranks 365th at forcing opponents to end possessions without a shot. The Fighting Illini do play decent defense, but they don’t force teams to make mistakes.

Wisconsin isn’t the type of team to make mistakes. The Badgers have long been renowned for their efficiency, and they’ve played well away from home. They’ve already gone to Michigan and won, and they did so by scoring 91 points on the Wolverines.

Wisconsin might not get out of Champaign with a win because it rarely does (Illinois has won nine of 10 and four straight at State Farm Center). But the Badgers should have no problem scoring enough to keep the game close. With Illinois boasting the most efficient offense in the nation, expect the points here.

Best College Basketball Prop Picks

Rienk Mast, Over 15.5 Points, (-105, BetMGM)

Taking a player who’s coming off a big game is always risky. Mast just had a huge one against Rutgers, scoring 26 points and grabbing eight rebounds. But Purdue is the type of team that has problems with big men like Mast. Trey Kaufman-Renn is more of an offensive-minded forward, and Mast has a history of success against the Boilers.

Two years ago, Mast scored 18 against Purdue in Lincoln, and the Cornhuskers drilled the Boilermakers in a stunning 88-72 upset. This time, Mast has a much better team around him and is a focal point of Nebraska’s offense. This point total is very much in reach.
