After weeks of endless tedium and few answers on when our lives may get back to normal, we may be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. As some states cautiously reopen, UFC is holding the first major live sporting event of the month in Jacksonville.
The decision to bring fighters into Florida as the country slowly crawls towards some semblance of normalcy. The company has received a lot of criticism for hosting the event and Dana White, of course, opted to not take a metered response to the doubters.
Nonetheless, there’s an impressive card set for Saturday night and the major books have promotions going on for players. Let’s take a look at some of the best ones.
Payout boosts on DraftKings
UFC 249 marks the first major event since the company’s IPO. This is a huge step not just for DraftKings’ growth as a brand but for the overall industry of sports gaming. To do all this with casinos closed and traditional gambling companies struggling, it speaks to the evolution of how consumers operate.
On Saturday, DraftKings Sportsbook is offering a cool promotion for the card by giving players a 20% boost in payout for the bouts.
Make a bet on the card and choose the boost on the betslip. Up to $50 of the winnings will be eligible for an extra 20 percent payout. A bet of $50 on +150 odds will mean an extra $15, bringing the winnings from $75 to $90. Players can add $250 in additional winnings, so a multi-leg parlay is eligible for this promotion.
Rocky mountain ways
The introduction of sports betting to Colorado has meant major books are offering major deals to players there. UFC 249 is a great opportunity to get involved for new players.
For DraftKings, bettors have a chance to double their money in a matter of seconds. In a clever twist, DK is offering +100 odds for the main event to last longer than the famous Tim Tebow Denver Broncos OT win against Pittsburgh in the 2011 NFL Wild Card round. A max $25 bet for the fight to go over 11 seconds.
FanDuel Sportsbook is putting a big odds boost on main event favorite Tony Ferguson. While he won’t get a shot at lightweight title holder Khabib Nurmagomedov (again), he’s a favorite against fill-in Justin Gathje. FD is offering Ferguson at 5-to-1 odds to win, up to $20. For new players in Colorado, that could mean turning the max bet into $100.
FOX Bet has established itself as one of the best places to find a variety of odds boosts for major events. They haven’t disappointed for UFC 249. Each of the 12 bouts of the card has four odds boosts, with each fighter getting at least one jump in prop prices.
PointsBet continues to keep things interesting with unique offers. The site has a whole menu of “fight specials”, including the card’s total of knockouts, submissions, and fights that go the distance. They also have dedicated Erin Dolan’s “Booster of the Week” to the Cejudo-Cruz title fight that’s second to last in the evening.
Given the lack of live betting options and the strength of this card, I wouldn’t be surprised if this challenges the handle totals for a non-superfight event. Yeah, it may lack the sizzle of other events that feature household names like Ronda Rousey or Connor McGregor. However, there’s steak on the menu and people are hungry.
