49ers Slight Underdogs Heading Into Philadelphia
From a fan perspective, this is a dream matchup. The top two seeds in the NFC battle and we get to see star players all over the field. The 49ers have a plethora of offensive weapons for QB Brock Purdy, and it’s up to him to utilize them in a smart but safe way. Philadelphia on the other hand is led by MVP candidate Jalen Hurts, who has consistently performed for the Eagles this season.
The Eagles are -2.5 for Sunday after opening at -2. Brock Purdy has faced some solid defenses, but this Eagles pass rush will be his biggest test yet, having totaled 70 sacks in the regular season.

Purdy only got the starting job in Week 14 due to the injury to Jimmy Garoppolo, and the rookie 7th-rounder has done exactly what is needed to keep the 49ers on the right track. The key for him is to not turn the ball over and take what the defense gives him. Kyle Shanahan will put him in situations where he can succeed, it’s just up to him to execute. Last week he had no touchdowns, but more importantly, he didn’t have any turnovers either.
Hurts has excelled in this Eagles’ offense this season. With new WR A.J. Brown, the passing offense has been unstoppable at times, adding to the already strong number of weapons such as Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. Combined with perhaps the best offensive line in football, Hurts can do damage in the air as well as on the ground for this Eagles team and can wreak havoc for San Francisco’s defense if they’re not careful. Hurts had 154 passing yards last week against New York and another 34 on the ground, with three total touchdowns.
