Best Bet365 Bonus code: Monday Night Football Betting Preview
The Chiefs have obviously been one of the dominant teams this season, managing to squeeze out a 4-0 record, but they’ve been far from their dominant self. Baltimore came an inch from tying it in Week 1 at the buzzer, Cincinnati would have won if not for a questionable pass interference call, and the Chargers covered despite a hobbled QB last week.
More pressingly, the Chiefs weapons are crumbling around Patrick Mahomes. Isiah Pacheco is injured, Rashee Rice suffered an uncertain ACL injury last week, and Travis Kelce has forgotten that he’s supposed to be good at more than just TV ads. It’s arguable that Xavier Worthy, taken in this past year’s Draft, is the Chiefs best skill position player right now. He’s played, I’ll remind people, 4 NFL games.
Can The Chiefs Defense Hold?
On the other side of the ball, the Saints were looking incredible after Week 2, before two tight losses the last two weeks. The offensive struggles against Philadelphia righted themselves in Week 4. That said, the Falcons still moved the ball at will in key moments. The Saints defense are still 5th by EPA and 3rd by Success Rate for the season. Those will need to be robust against Mahomes.
The Chargers did manage to slow Mahomes down, giving the Saints the blueprint. The options available to Mahomes are weak at this point. They will require Worthy to hit on his opportunities for big plays if the Chiefs expect to score in bunches. If the Saints clean up the muffed punt from last game, they’d be coming in 3-1. If so, they’d be feeling better about their chances.
When the Saints have the ball, they’ll need to take apart this defense. For all the talk of defensive improvement, the Chiefs are still 23rd by Success Rate. They’re not giving up many big plays – they do better in EPA than Success Rate, a proxy for how often they get burned – but they’re not getting stops all that often. If that continues, the Saints could even win outright.
The Saints are 5th by offensive EPA and 12th by Success Rate, because they are hitting their big plays. Whether or not the Saints offensive line can handle Chris Jones and give Carr and Chris Olave time to let routes develop will be a key battle on Monday Night Football.

TheLines.com’s lead writer Mo Nuwwarah may be a Chiefs fan, but he thinks Kansas City is laying too many points in the first game without Rashee Rice.
