2021 Bermuda Championship Odds
Notable Golfers In The Bermuda Championship
The first-ever Bermuda Championship was in 2019 at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton. This year’s event is one of the weaker fields of the season with top-25 players Patrick Reed and Matt Fitzpatrick leading the field.
Defending champion Brian Gay returns along with other golfers who finished top 10 in last year’s event — Denny McCarthy, Ryan Armour, David Hearn and Kramer Kickok. The tournament also includes Stanford grad and PGA TOUR rookie Brandon Wu, who shoots to make his first cut after missing in his debut at the recent Fortinet Championship.
Along with 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed and the top returning pros above, four other major champions are in the field.
- Lucas Glover (2009 US Open)
- Graeme McDowell (2010 US Open)
- Jason Dufner (2013 PGA Championship)
- Danny Willett (2016 Masters)
Brian Gay won the 2020 Bermuda Championship, and also finished T3 in the 2019 event with Hank Lebioda, who tees it up again this week.
But beyond the PGA TOUR pros playing this week, a special sponsors exemption was extended to Ocean View Golf Club head golf professional Brian Morris. He makes his PGA TOUR debut while battling stage-4 brain cancer.
Golf legend Jack Nicklaus paid tribute to Morris ahead of his first PGA TOUR start.

Port Royal Golf Club is the most frequented fully public course on the island of Bermuda off the North Carolina coast. The course was renovated in 2009 by Robert Rulewich as part of a $16 million project to draw a world class tournament, which it did with the Grand Slam event and now the PGA TOUR for the third straight year.
The Robert Trent Jones par-71 design at Port Royal is a short oceanside course providing stunning views. It also provides little use of driver off the tee, as finding fairways and hitting greens is the straightforward approach to potential putting prowess and contending for a title. The 2020 and 2019 winners Brian Gay and Brendon Todd, respectively, are both very short hitters who found success with little use of the driver and avoiding the fairway bunkers off the tees.
The opening seven holes give the appearance of a tropical inland golf course as players hit shots through lush low points guarded by trees. From there, the elevation changes of the course take on a visually stunning appearance where ball striking and shorter approach play are Strokes Gained keys as players handle the wind off the ocean and control their ball flight on shorter approach shots.
The wind conditions are the defense against lower scores, and that was the case last year as windier conditions produced a playoff with Gay beating Wyndham Clark with a 15-under-par total. During the third round of the 2020 event, winds blew at average speeds of 19 mph at Port Royal. Several holes were directly exposed to the winds, and barely half the players who made the weekend cut broke par in the third round.
The best third round scores last year from players returning for this year’s Bermuda Championship were Adam Schenk (66), Brian Gay (67), David Hearn (67), Russell Knox (67) and Seamus Power (68).
This year’s event has advance weather showing up to a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms. Winds could reach nearly 20 mph.
