Defending Chase is already problematic, adding an enormous threat like Higgins to the equation makes defending the Bengals redzone offense a tall task.
For reference, when Kupp led the league with 16 TDs in 2021 and won OPOY, he notched 36 redzone targets. Chase was on pace for 34 redzone targets a year ago. The volume of targets will certainly be there again.
Most Receptions
Once again, each of the last three receivers to win OPOY led the league in receptions in their respective seasons.
Chase simply faces an uphill challenge to finish with most receptions in 2023 with Higgins on the roster. That said, former TE Hayden Hurst, who gobbled up 52 receptions a year ago is now on the Panthers. 24-year-old Irv Smith Jr. figures to slot in as TE1 for the Bengals. Smith has yet to surpass 36 receptions in a season, however.
Zac Taylor and company may move away from utilizing tight ends and lean more on their talented group of wide receivers.
