Atlantic 10 tournament odds: vcu rams favored

VCU is the clear favorite among Atlantic 10 tournament odds because of its elite defense, which ranks 21st in Haslametrics’ adjusted defensive efficiency (AdjD) rating. The Rams generate the 25th-highest turnover rate nationally while their opponents shoot just 30.7% from behind the arc, a key factor in a conference filled with high-volume scorers.

Their nine-game winning streak was snapped with a loss to Dayton in their final regular-season finale. That prevented them from earning an outright title and decreased their chances of an at-large bid. Ryan Odom’s squad played that matchup without combo guard Philip Russell, who sat out with an ankle injury but is expected to suit up in the A-10 tournament.

a-10 upset pick: dayton flyers peaking?

To upend VCU, an opponent must showcase an efficient, uptempo offense to counter the Rams’ trapping style. George Mason doesn’t do that well. However, the third-seeded Flyers are a threat because of their scoring prowess.

Dayton, which has won six of its last seven games, accumulated 79 points (1.19 PPP) on VCU in its upset win on Friday. It was the highest-scoring output that the Rams have surrendered all season.

Although the Flyers could have a potential scare against the Redhawks in the quarterfinals, their transition attack and off-ball action should create plenty of issues for Saint Joseph’s. Nate Santos, a 6-foot-7 senior, is highly effective in both respects, and he tallied 24 points in Dayton’s four-point victory over the Redhawks on Jan. 24.

Remember that Anthony Grant’s crew was the most impressive A-10 team outside of league play. The Flyers lost to Iowa State and North Carolina by two possessions or less before blowing out UConn in their final game of the Maui Invitational. They also took down Marquette at the tail-end of their non-conference slate. I wouldn’t be surprised if they collect the automatic bid and VCU snatches an at-large berth from a high-major contender.

On Sunday afternoon, I wagered on Dayton’s Atlantic 10 tournament odds (+500 at DraftKings Sportsbook). I’d play them down to +400. You’ll find all my plays in real time on our free sports betting Discord channel.

Futures Betting vs. Moneyline (ML) Rollover

For novice bettors, this strategy involves betting on a team’s ML odds and using the winnings to bet the ML in the subsequent game. ML rollovers are especially favorable for teams that could be underdogs in the remainder of their potential matchups.

Here’s an example. A $100 futures bet on Dayton would net $500 if it wins the Atlantic 10 tournament at 5-1 odds. But let’s say bettors try to use the ML rollover option. Wagering $100 on the Flyers as -230 quarterfinal favorites against St. Joe’s would net $43.48 if they advance.

Then, you’d roll over the $143.48 in potential showdowns against George Mason and VCU.

While we can use a parlay calculator to determine that average odds (-110 and +120) or shorter in the final two games would produce a similar return of a 5-1 futures bet, this game plan does not guarantee a more profitable outcome.

If VCU, George Mason, or Saint Joseph’s are upset, the moneyline rollover strategy will produce a lower ROI.
