AFC Wild Card Opening Odds: Dolphins Vs. Chiefs | 2024 NFL Playoffs
The 2024 NFL postseason is officially on the doorstep. Sportsbooks rolled out opening odds for the NFL Wild Card round, including the Miami Dolphins (11-6) at Kansas City Chiefs (10-7). The Chiefs opened as -1.5 favorites over the Dolphins and the game has an over/under opened at 47.5 points. Kansas City finished up arguably their most disappointing season in some time, but look to wash away the negative with a playoff run. Dolphins at Chiefs kicks off Saturday night at 8:15 p.m. ET only on Peacock.

How The Chiefs Got Here
A 10-win season and division title may not be the standard team’s idea of a disappointing season, but it’s hard to call Kansas City’s 2023 a relative success. Patrick Mahomes posted his worst passer rating, lowest touchdown rate, and most interceptions in his starting career. While the former MVP didn’t play his best football during the regular season, the struggles were exacerbated by a poor receiving corps and declining Travis Kelce.
And yet, the Chiefs are AFC West champions and in the playoffs for an eighth consecutive season. KC’s defense, particularly against the pass, was stellar down the stretch – a handy tool for facing quarterbacks like Tua Tagovailoa and CJ Stroud. Though this may not be last year’s juggernaut, never count the Chiefs out, particularly at Arrowhead.
How The Dolphins Got Here
The Dolphins’ high-flying offense propelled them to 11 wins, but just shy of their first AFC East title since 2008. Tyreek Hill landed among the top 10 most receiving yards in a season and De’Von Achane tied for the most rushing touchdowns by a rookie this season (11). Mike McDaniels‘ offense got more players involved, including Raheem Mostert, who led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns in a resurgent year. While the defense has plenty of star power, the offense wins games for this team.
Miami ended up fumbling the division in Week 18, giving up a 96-yard punt return en route to a loss to the Bills. Now, they have to travel to bitter-cold Kansas City. The Dolphins’ Achilles heel this season has been playing away from home – something they now have to do for at least the first two rounds and likely for their entire playoff stay.
