ACC Tournament Betting Odds: Are Cooper Flagg, Duke Inevitable?

Once among the crown jewels of conference tournament season, the ACC no longer boasts the firepower it once did. Conference realignment and down cycles from historically strong programs have left Duke a strong favorite in ACC tournament odds.

Duke In Juggernaut Form
The bottom six teams in the ACC open the tournament, while the top four earn double byes to the quarterfinals. Those teams are Duke, Wake Forest, Louisville, and Clemson. If each wins, the former and latter would line up for semifinal matchups.
Duke looks to be the scariest team in the ACC tournament. The Blue Devils romped through the conference, going 19-1. Clemson handed them their only defeat, 77-71 in Clemson. Only Wake Forest and Notre Dame even managed to stay within single digits. Duke won multiple games by more than 30 points.
That margin of victory has seriously boosted Duke’s advanced metrics. KenPom, Torvik, and Haslametrics all rate Duke No. 1 in the country.
The only real question is whether they’ve fattened on such a soft schedule that they’re a paper tiger. Jeff Sagarin’s ratings make the ACC the weakest of the major conferences.
Still, that’s a question for bettors to ponder regarding March Madness odds. For now, Duke only has to beat its fellow ACC teams, the same ones that have struggled to get within shouting distance for months.
Cooper Flagg will lead the way as the Blue Devils have nearly a 75% implied probability of winning the tournament. Flagg is the clear leader in Wooden Award odds, averaging a 19.4/7.6/4.2 line, not to mention 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks. Anyone hoping to take down the Blue Devils must start by figuring out how to slow him down.
Can Clemson, Louisville, Or UNC Step Up?
Clemson and Louisville both racked up impressive ACC records, each going 18-2 to land just a game behind Duke in the standings. If anyone steps up and upsets Duke, it seems likely to be one of these two.
Both are landing in the top 25 of the primary metrics, and both enter the tournament very hot, with win streaks of at least eight.
While Wake Forest earned a high seed in the conference tournament, they aren’t considered a realistic contender. Duke beat them twice by an average margin of 20.
Instead, it’s old power North Carolina ahead of the Demon Deacons in the odds. The Heels gave Duke a battle in the finale, trailing by just one at the half before wilting. They have some NBA talent in Drake Powell and a senior leader in PG RJ Davis.
