ACC Basketball Tournament Odds, Schedule: Virginia, Florida State The Favorites

Posted By Marco Cerino on March 8, 2021

In times of chaos and confusion, experiencing familiarity is a great thing. While the Atlantic Coast Conference has seen traditional powers struggle during the 2020-21 basketball season, the conference tournament returning to the Greensboro Coliseum brings a degree of normalcy we’ve lacked over the past 12 months. As much fun as it was to see celebs at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the historic venue on Tobacco Road brings back so many memories.

Fifteen teams will look to wear this year’s ACC tourney crown. The expanded tournament will see games played Tuesday through Saturday night, when the champs will cut down the nets. Who should you bet in the week of chaos? Who might be a value bet? We’ll cover it here.

ACC Tournament odds

Virginia opened as the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook (+225) and BetMGM (+250) but the Cavaliers are not a consensus fave. Florida State is atop the odds board at FanDuel Sportsbook, and FD has Virginia at +310.

The Favorites

Virginia has played well this season and won the conference’s regular season title.

After an impressive 2020 season was ended by the pandemic, Florida State looks to cash in this year with the best group they’ve had in decades at Tallahassee. Despite dropping the regular season title on final day, the Seminoles are the pre-tournament favorites at FanDuel (+230), FOX Bet (+250), and PointsBet (+225).

The top four finishers in the conference won’t have to play until Thursday. Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech will receive byes to Thursday along with the Cavs and Seminoles. The Hokies are +650 at FanDuel and the Yellow Jackets are +1000 at FD.

The Sleepers

This has not been a great year for the conference’s bluebloods. Neither North Carolina or Duke have played consistently well this season. Yet they are at the top half of the table for pricing, outperforming their seeding. UNC is the third-choice on three of the top four boards, while Duke is sixth or seventh on the markets.

In terms of a value bet, the answer may be Clemson. Listed +1500 to +2000, they are seventh-best on the futures market but probably shouldn’t be. The Tigers finished 10-6 in conference play and won six of their final seven after a 1-4 stretch. They also have some good non-conference wins against Alabama and Maryland. Currently slated as an eight-seed in the NCAA bracket by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, Clemson has a lot to gain in Greensboro.
