2024 PGA TOUR Golf Bets: 3M Open Final Thoughts, Betting Card, OAD

The 2024 PGA TOUR golf season continues, with TPC Twin Cities next on tap to host the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota, beginning Thursday. Tony Finau, Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala, and Sam Burns headline 3M Open bets this week, as John Haslbauer provides his favorite picks among all the golf odds for this tourney. Below, you’ll find the best odds across betting sites for each player.
With the British Open in the review, just two events separate us from the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The 2024 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, is next on tap and comes with some elevated stakes, with only the top 70 players in the FedEx Playoff standings advancing to Memphis. Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala, Sam Burns, and Akshay Bhatia headline as the favorites across golf odds and potential 3M Open bets.
After an eventful Sunday from Xander Schauffele at The Open, here’s hoping for continued excitement in Minnesota with one of the most entertaining finishing stretches on the PGA TOUR. In a field that lacks both an imposing favorite and depth in the bottom half of the board, there’s still plenty of value to exploit at the best sports betting sites. Let’s get into all of my bets placed for the 2024 3M Open.
Below, we’ll go through my 3M Open bets. Click the odds anywhere in this article to place 3M Open wagers. For a full breakdown of the tournament and course, visit my 3M Open preview.

HOW I BUILT MY 3m open BETTING CARD
The 3M Open can be misconstrued as yet another birdie fest, surrounded by events like the Rocket Mortgage Classic, John Deere Classic, and The Travelers on the schedule. It deserves more credit than that, though, as there is a true reward for avoiding the many water hazards on site and generating birdie looks on approaches from 175-225 yards. As I constructed my betting card, I prioritized backing players who were in elite ball-striking form. With TPC Twin Cities’ simplistic greens complexes, it also makes for a good week to take a chance on historically lesser putters.
From a unit allocation standpoint, it’s back to business as usual for my weekly stake at the 2024 3M Open.
- Outrights – 3.5U in to pay 25U each
- FRL – 0.5U in to pay out 10U+ each
- Full Tournament Matchups – 1U in to pay out 2U
- Props – 1.5U in to pay out 3U+ each
3m open BETS: OUTRIGHTS (3.5 UNITS)
Tony Finau
My Bet: +1200
Best Available Odds:
Sometimes a decision to bet the betting favorite is more an indictment against the other options on the board. Assessing the favorites in this field, Tony Finau easily clears the rest in terms of both course history and current form. We’re used to seeing betting favorites below 10-1 odds, so whenever a favorite drifts this far, it grabs my attention.
The 2022 3M Open champion enjoys coming to this event, playing each year since it was added to the PGA TOUR schedule in 2019, with finishes of T23, T3, T28, 1st, and T7. A key reason I’d imagine for why Finau continues to run back to Minnesota, is the greens. He has gained strokes putting in each of his last four appearances at the 3M Open. That’s been a rarity for Finau, but he’ll come to TPC Twin Cities on a stretch of four straight events in which he’s gained strokes putting. That’s a dangerous proposition for the player who already leads the field in SG: T2G, so I’m comfortable paying a premium on a shorter betting card, hitching my wagon to the betting favorite.

Akshay Bhatia
My Bet: +2200
Best Available Odds:
If Tony Finau doesn’t win this week, it’s Akshay Bhatia who I would give the next best odds to prevail. Akshay has found his groove at this stage in the season and continues to make a compelling case for a Presidents Cup Captain’s choice at this rate. He’s picked up top-5 finishes at the Travelers Championship and Rocket Mortgage Classic over his last three starts, two events that reward a similar aggressive style of play to stockpile birdies on risk-reward holes.
Though making his 3M Open debut this week, it’s hard to poke any holes in Akshay’s game right now. He’s gained at least 1.5 strokes off-the-tee in six consecutive events now, also spiking on approach in all but one of those instances. Even more encouraging, he’s figured the putter out too recently, gaining 10 strokes putting over his last three measured events.
Kevin Yu
My Bet: +10000
Best Available Odds:
If the trend of elite ball-strikers with forgettable short games prevailing at the 3M Open continues, Kevin Yu is most likely to pay it off. The recent Arizona State graduate has followed in the footsteps of bombers like Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm before him, quickly ascending as one of the most complete Total Drivers on the PGA TOUR. He ranks top-10 in the field in terms of both SG: OTT and SG: APP, which are the first two pre-requisite boxes I look for a player to check before betting them at the 3M Open.
Yu has had a season full of ups and downs – as you’d expect from any player in the 100-1 odds range in this field – but four top-10 finishes on the season show he is poised to contend on courses that reward great ball-striking. His best finish this season, a T3 at The AmEx, came at PGA West, one of my favorite comp courses to TPC Twin Cities with its ample water hazards and reward for accuracy off-the-tee.
3M open BETS: FIRST-ROUND LEADER (0.5 UNITS)
Nick Dunlap
My Bet: +5000
Best Available Odds:
I couldn’t quite fit my featured spotlight player of the week on my outright card, so I’m hedging my exposure in the FRL market instead. Dunlap was a popular selection to win the Barracuda Championship last week for his birdie-making prowess, and assuming an emotional hangover after that victory lines up well to keep that momentum going into Minnesota.
Taylor Pendrith
My Bet: +5000
Best Available Odds:
Another popular player who showed great promise at the Barracuda Championship, Taylor Pendrith’s game is a picture-perfect fit for what’s required to score at TPC Twin Cities. He has the distance to create birdie-or-better opportunities on the Par-5s and the wherewithal to club down for more conservative tee shots when water hazards are in play.
Rico Hoey
My Bet: +7000
Best Available Odds:
Rico Hoey put his ability to close a golf tournament into question after giving away the ISCO Championship on the 72nd hole. That’s not a concern in this market, however, as Hoey has continued to prove over the last month that he is best suited for risk-reward layouts that cater to strong total drivers.
Kevin Yu
My Bet: +7500
Best Available Odds:
My favorite value play on the board this week, Yu is exactly the sort of volatile birdie-maker I look to target in the FRL market. Like the rest of my FRL card, his distance and ball-striking prowess will create ample birdie opportunities, so this will simply be a matter of whether or not the putter cooperates on Thursday.
Jhonattan Vegas
My Bet: +9000
Best Available Odds:
A known TPC killer, Vegas has a great history at the 3M Open, last seen here finishing T2 in 2022. Vegas has long been one of the most consistent total drivers on the PGA TOUR, so it’s hardly a surprise to see that fit has translated to success here. Finally looking healthy again, we got a nice discount on Vegas in the FRL market this week.
3M open BETS: PROPS (2.5 UNITS)
Full Tournament Matchup: Nick Dunlap > Mackenzie Hughes
My Bet: -110
I actively sought out matchups this week where ball-striking advantage could be exploited over short-game specialists. This matchup of Dunlap over Hughes is a perfect example of that. While Dunlap is coming off of an emotional high with his Barracuda Championship victory last week, that should only help build the 20-year-old’s confidence. Elite ball-striking and consistent birdie-making were the keys to Dunlap’s victory last week, and those same skillsets should translate at TPC Twin Cities once again.
Hughes, on the other hand, is best suited for courses with more generous landing areas off-the-tee, as he’s proven to be erratic with driver in hand. That won’t work at TPC Twin Cities, and explains why he’s failed to crack the top-30 in two prior appearances.
Top-40 Finish: Brice Garnett
My Bet: +260
Best Available Odds:
Far be it from me to fade Garnett in Minnesota. The Big Ticket top-40 is a tradition that remains profitable, as Garnett has made it through the cut in all five prior appearances at the 3M Open. Since last year, Garnett has remained sharp, picking up a win at the Puerto Rico Open and two additional top-15s over the last three months. Garnett is best at keeping the ball in play, and avoiding the many water hazards at TPC Twin Cities is a safe enough strategy to find yourself in the top 40 by week’s end.
Top-20 Finish: Neil Shipley
My Bet: +400
Best Available Odds:
The low-am at The Masters and U.S. Open continues to impress in his first foray into professional golf. He’s missed just one cut over his first seven career starts on the PGA TOUR and has found himself in contention often already, with two top-20s over his last four starts. Profiling as a bomber with spike approach upside, he’ll just need to dial in the putter to stay in contention this week, which is an area TPC Twin Cities has been known for leveling the playing field in.

ONE AND DONE
My Pick: Tony Finau
I was surprised to see Tony Finau was still available to me in OAD at this stage of the season, but that makes for a very easy decision. Finau is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of this field in terms of course history, course fit, and recent form. And with so many opportunities earlier in the season to deploy Finau in OAD, he makes for a natural contrarian play anyway, as most players will not have him at their disposal this week.
If not Finau, I would also consider playing Akshay Bhatia, Cam Davis, or Sahith Theegala in OAD.
That’ll do it for this week’s PGA TOUR golf bets. Best of luck this week with your own 3M Open bets, and see you on Sunday for the Olympics Golf preview.
