SOUTH Region SECOND Round Odds
Opening Odds
Game | Favorite | Underdog | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
(1) Auburn vs. (9) Creighton | Auburn -9.5 (-105) | Creighton +9.5 (-115) | 151.5 |
(4) Texas A&M vs. (5) Michigan | Texas A&M -2.5 (-115) | Michigan +2.5 (-105) | 141.5 |
(3) Iowa State vs. (6) Ole Miss | Iowa State -5.5 (-105) | Ole Miss +5.5 (-115) | 145.5 |
(2) Michigan State vs. (10) New Mexico | Michigan State -7.5 (-105) | New Mexico +7.5 (-115) | 147.5 |
Auburn backers couldn’t have enjoyed the opening day much. The Tigers struggled with Alabama State in the first half, while others in the region had strong showings. That included presumptive Sweet 16 opponents Texas A&M and Michigan, which dodged popular upset bids. However, the market still sees Auburn as a strong favorite to win the South.
Key Matchups
Auburn vs. Creighton
Creighton enjoyed one of the most impressive performances of opening day, a thorough destruction of a highly regarded Louisville side. The difficulty is about to ramp up considerably. Longtime Bluejays standout Ryan Kalkbrenner will have his hands full trying to corral Auburn’s ball-handlers. Was the Tigers’ slow start simply overlooking a low-seeded opponent, or was the late-season slide (lost three of its last four games before the tournament) indicative of things to come?
Iowa State vs. Ole Miss
Sean Pedulla came up clutch for the Rebels to ensure they didn’t blow a big lead against North Carolina. Ole Miss was uncharacteristically turnover-prone in that one (14), and they’ll have to protect the ball better against Iowa State’s opportunistic defense (12th in adjusted turnover rate on defense).
South Region Betting: Current Odds
No. 1 Auburn vs. No. 9 Creighton
No. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 10 New Mexico
No. 3 Iowa State vs. No. 6 Ole Miss
No. 4 Texas A&M vs. No. 5 Michigan
EAST Region SECOND Round Odds
Opening Odds
Game | Favorite | Underdog | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
(1) Duke vs. (9) Baylor | Duke -12.5 (-105) | Baylor +12.5 (-115) | 143.5 |
(4) Arizona vs. (5) Oregon | Arizona -3.5 (-118) | Oregon +3.5 (-102) | 152.5 |
(3) Wisconsin vs. (6) BYU | Wisconsin -1 | BYU +1 | 154.5 |
(2) Alabama vs. (7) St. Mary’s | Alabama -5.5 | St. Mary’s +5.5 | 149.5 |
Wisconsin and BYU were the only teams in the East to play on Thursday. The Badgers took care of business as expected, and BYU had an impressive, easier-than-expected victory over VCU. That, along with BYU’s strong metrics (top 15 in Haslametrics, Torvik) that barely trail those of Wisconsin, drives a tight line here in the second round. Arizona and Oregon also impressed in demolishing upset-minded low seeds, but Alabama struggled mightily against Robert Morris.
Key Matchups
Wisconsin vs. BYU
Egor Demin didn’t have the season that prospect watchers expected, but he turned in a solid 15-point effort in BYU’s first-round game. The Cougars have a top-five offense, and that side of the ball is also Wisconsin’s calling card (14th). Expect a high-scoring affair here.
Alabama vs. St. Mary’s
It hasn’t been a great start for the SEC, which saw five teams go down in addition to Alabama having the closest shave of the top seeds. Robert Morris gave them all they could handle before falling, 90-81. A better effort will be required to beat St. Mary’s. This one is a contrast in styles, with Alabama being the fastest team in the nation while St. Mary’s plays at a crawl.
East Region Betting: Current Odds
No. 1 Duke vs. No. 9 Baylor
No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 7 Saint Mary’s
No. 3 Wisconsin vs. 6 BYU
No. 4 Arizona vs. 5 Oregon

Opening Odds
Game | Favorite | Underdog | Over/Under |
---|---|---|---|
(1) Houston vs. (8) Gonzaga | Houston -5.5 (-108) | Gonzaga +5.5 (-112) | 139.5 |
(4) Purdue vs. (12) McNeese State | Purdue -5.5 (-112) | McNeese State +5.5 (-108) | 143.5 |
(3) Kentucky vs. (6) Illinois | Illinois -1.5 (-112) | Kentucky +1.5 (-108) | 169.5 |
(2) Tennessee vs. (7) UCLA | Tennessee -4.5 (-112) | UCLA +4.5 (-108) | 131.5 |
The Midwest was considered one of the more wide-open regions, and the opening round of games did little to change that. Gonzaga, an analytics favorite, crushed Georgia, and they’re getting a lot of respect against top-seeded Houston. Popular dark horse McNeese State also had a nice showing, holding on after nearly blowing a gigantic lead against Clemson.
Key Matchups
Houston vs. Gonzaga
The Zags are rated as a top-10 team by the major analytics sites, so it’s a bit of an unlucky draw for Houston that they wind up facing them in the second round. How will Mark Few’s group, which likes to get out and run a bit, deal with Houston’s bottom-of-the-barrel pace and suffocating defense? ShotQuality wasn’t impressed with Gonzaga’s looks, tabbing them as rightful losers despite a 21-point win.
Kentucky vs. Illinois
It’s not often a No. 6 seed is favored over a No. 3, but Illinois thoroughly impressed in the first round against Xavier. They bombed away from deep (12 for 30) and crushed the Musketeers on the glass (45 to 25). Both teams can be sloppy with the ball, so look for whichever team can protect the rock to gain a huge edge.
Midwest Region Betting Odds
No. 1 Houston vs. No. 8 Gonzaga
No. 2 Tennessee vs. No. 7 UCLA
No. 3 Kentucky vs. No. 6 Illinois
No. 4 Purdue vs. No. 12 McNeese State

---|---|---|---|
(1) Florida vs. (8) UConn | Florida -9.5 (-115) | UConn +9.5 (-105) | 151.5 |
(4) Maryland vs. (12) Colorado State | Maryland -7.5 (-105) | Colorado State +7.5 (-115) | 142.5 |
(3) Texas Tech vs. (11) Drake | Texas Tech -7.5 (-108) | Drake +7.5 (-112) | 127.5 |
(2) St. John’s vs. (10) Arkansas | St. John’s -6.5 (-118) | Arkansas +6.5 (-102) | 144.5 |
Higher seeds St. John’s and Texas Tech could be on upset alert in the second round. In both cases, the teams struggled with lightly-regarded lower-seeded opponents in Omaha and UNC Wilmington, respectively. Opening odds for the second round still favor them, but Drake and Arkansas won’t be pushovers. Maryland, meanwhile, looked tremendous in a beatdown of Grand Canyon.
Key Matchups
Florida vs. UConn
Danny Hurley’s squad kept the 3-peat dream alive, though things got hairy late against Oklahoma. They’ll look to slow the pace against the efficient Gators offense, which features a multitude of players who can put up double digits. The Huskies will have to shoot the ball better after a 6-for-25 showing from behind the arc, or their upset bid will have little chance.
Texas Tech vs. Drake
A popular dark horse championship pick, the Red Raiders had a rocky opening night. With four minutes to go, they were clinging to a five-point lead before they managed to finish strong for an 82-72 final. There are rumblings that forward Darrion Williams is physically compromised after a 5-for-15 showing. Drake will try to put the pressure on with its top-10 turnover-forcing defense.
West Region Betting Odds
No. 1 Florida vs. No. 8 UConn
No. 2 St. John’s vs. No. 10 Arkansas
No. 3 Texas Tech vs. No. 11 Drake
No. 4 Maryland vs. No. 12 Colorado State
