A Look At The Field

If you’re looking for an even field with plenty of contenders, well this one’s not for you. Murray State (-175) is the odds-on favorite. Led by forward KJ Williams and guard Tevin Brown, the Racers boast the OVC’s top scoring defense, are tied for the top scoring offense, and rank 26th overall by KenPom. Aside from an early-season loss to East Tennessee State, Murray State’s cruised. Their only other loss on the season was to Auburn, a top-10 team in America.

Belmont (+240) trails considerably, but is the only team other than Murray State to be priced under 9-1. Despite a 25-6 record, the Bruins will be watching March Madness from their couches if they don’t take the tournament title, according to ESPN’s latest projections. Big man Nick Muszynski will be a force in the tournament behind his 15.9 points and 1.7 blocks per game.

Defending tournament champion Morehead State (+900) is the only remaining team with better than 10-1 odds. The gap between them and Murray State, according to KenPom, is over 100 spots. Tennessee State (+4700) opens up the tournament against SIU Edwardsville (+50000) in one of the two play-in games.
