Sunday’s opening match between Germany and Curacao is the type that sees a lot of potential FIFA World Cup goal scorer picks in play.

When the expansion of the men’s World Cup to 48 teams became reality, one of the worries was uncompetitive group stage matches. That might be the case here, as Curacao looks overmatched against Germany.

The Germans are such heavy favorites that some goalscorers don’t add much value. For example, the best odds on Kai Havertz scoring go off at -160. That’s not a great buy for a goal scoring prop play, certainly not on anytime goal scorer picks.

Fortunately, with four matches on the card, there are some more valuable options for FIFA World Cup goal scorer picks today. Here are some of the best bets on the board.

Florian Wirtz, Germany (-115, Caesars)

Maybe Wirtz should consider a return to the Bundesliga. The Liverpool man has struggled to score in the Premier League, but when he’s wearing a German club or country kit, he’s a different man. He’s scored three goals in four matches with the national team, and his form from scoring 21 goals in two years at Bayer Leverkusen hasn’t disappeared.

Wirtz will likely get a few chances against Curacao. The Blue Wave’s defense had a hard time holding back Australia and Scotland, allowing nine goals to those two sides in World Cup preparation. Curacao has never played in a World Cup before, and nerves might be an issue in going up against the likes of Germany.

That should play into the hands of Wirtz and others. Germany has scored 18 goals across its past five matches, and they know that Ecuador and Cote D’Ivoire will be attempting to bury Curacao in the same manner. Every German goal matters towards their odds of winning Group E, and Wirtz will likely get a chance to find one of his own.

Cody Gakpo, Netherlands (+245, DraftKings)

The Netherlands and Japan are considered the two favorites to win Group F. That means chances will come at more of a premium in this match. Both will be more concerned about not losing than getting a win.

Still, Gakpo is clearly the Oranje’s top choice as a goal scorer. He takes the penalties whenever they come, and he’s converted five of them in the Dutch’s past eight matches. Overall, he’s scored six times in the Netherlands’ past eight matches. The Dutch’s style leads to several fouls in dangerous areas, which should mean chances.

Japan hasn’t allowed a goal in five matches, but three of those came against non-World Cup sides. The Blue Samurai conceded twice each to Brazil, the USMNT and Paraguay. Allowing a goal to the Netherlands seems likely, giving Gakpo a good chance as an anytime goal scorer.

Viktor Gyokeres, Sweden (+170, DraftKings)

This should be the most wide-open match of the day. Gyokeres seems the most likely of Sweden’s attackers to find the net, given what he’s done to date in 2026. The Swedes have scored nine goals across their past four matches, and Gyokeres has five of them.

He’s been the first goalscorer in two of his team’s past four matches. Gyokeres also comes off a 14-goal year with Arsenal. He’s in excellent form at the moment, and Tunisia represents his best opportunity to open his account.

Sweden likes to play to either Gyokeres or Alexander Isak up top. That makes both a reasonable choice to score in this fixture. But with Isak coming off an injury-plagued year, Gyokeres represents the safer choice and the better value.
